As if the current playoff standings were not enough, on Friday night, Laker Nation witnessed a complete summation of this season for Kobe and his Lakers. This season has taken Lakers fans and NBA fans alike on more twists and turns than a vomit-inducing roller coaster at Six Flags. The Lakers came into training camp with NBA Championship expectations or bust. All in all, this season has to be considered a bust.As the NBA as a whole prepares for its first postseason without Mr. Bryant since 2005 (a season I would like to never speak of again), too many questions and possibilities linger post-op for Kobe and the franchise that loves him so dearly. The Black Mamba, who is now known as "Vino", guaranteed a playoff berth for his underachieving Lakers and imposed his fearlessness and determination on his teammates. But was that his undoing? No.
Kobe refused to do anything but help get his team to the playoffs. This killer instinct and will is what separates him from other current superstars and other past great players. When asked if this would be the last strike we'd see from the Mamba, Kobe gave one of his signature "GTFOH" frowns and replied "Really?"Yes, Isiah Thomas experienced the same injury and promptly retired afterwards. But, Isiah was not Kobe. This is 2013, not 1994. Kobe will be in the gym by next Friday, shooting one-legged free throws (something he already did this past Friday night vs. Golden State). The fight in this man has been enough to send fellow NBA players into frustration and admiration. He'll be back. Coach Vino said it himself. "One day, the beginning of a new career journey will commence. Today is NOT that day."
